Saturday free practice at Hockenheimring

The second day of the final DTM race weekend at Hockenheimring began with a traditional free practice - two sessions, one hour each. All Mercedes-Benz drivers have updated cars this weekend.

Vitaly Petrov, Mercedes AMG driver: “I have said many times that the DTM car is very complicated in settings. It will take some time to properly configure the updates that we got this weekend. I can admit that I feel car a little bit better, have some work to do in turns, but it is still not fully configured to show a perfect lap."

Vitaly was out of luck during the second free practice: after five laps Vitaly finished his free practice because of problems with rare wheel and settings of the updated car.

Vitaly Petrov: “In spite of updates car behaves a little in a "nervous" manner. It is difficult to drive. Updates really work, but we definitely need some time to adjust it. I do not know if we can improve our score in qualifying, we are doing our best.

It is obvious now that we are very close to the top ten, but still have a lot of work to do. Results are very dense. I would say I have overbraked in 13th turn, as a result I went into the gravel and damaged the front bumper. This is a minor damage and will be repaired by the start of qualifying. We are now making some small changes, trying to find the optimal settings and I hope that I will be able to show good results in qualifying."

Qualifying is scheduled for 14.45 local time.
